Oh! And how can we talk about Arpoador Beach without mentioning its neighbor, Praia do Diabo? Although it gets its name from the strong waves that often prevent swimmers from entering, the place is also very popular among those looking for a little spot to exercise, play various games and, of course, enjoy the wonderful scenery.

There you will find a very traditional outdoor gym in the neighborhood, known as Flintstones Gym. It is mainly natural, made up of equipment made of stones, cement and scrap iron, and it is also completely free!

New at Arpoador

There are plenty of places to enjoy the scenery around here! This year saw the opening of a panoramic bench between Diabo and Arpoador beaches, known as Largo do Millôr. Bench was built in honor of Millôr Fernandes, a writer, designer and journalist who, according to friends, always said that if one day he were to be honored, it would be with a bench from which he could watch the sunset.

The project, by urban planner Jaime Lerner, aims to give the impression that the bench is floating and features an image of Millôr’s profile, drawn by Chico Caruso. The image was nicknamed “The Thinker of Ipanema”.

Inauguration was a major achievement for the writer’s family and friends, as well as for cariocas and visitors who, like MIllôr, are passionate about Arpoador. It’s worth a visit when you’re passing through!
