From the 1960s on, the place became a meeting place mainly for surfers and young people, who became influential figures in Rio de Janeiro’s cultural scene. In the surfing area, for example, legends of the sport began training and competing, such as Daniel Friedman, Pepê and Bocão.
In addition to these, some famous names from the neighborhood include Ira Etz, Arduíno Colasanti, artists and composers such as Tom Jobim, Vinícius de Moraes and João Gilberto, who used the setting as inspiration for their songs.
